Larry Popelka, President of GameChanger, led the development of Green Works for the Clorox Company while he was VP of New Ventures there. It is the first line of plant-based cleaning products that clean as well as the leading chemical brands. It is Clorox’s first new brand in over 20 years, launched in January’08. Popelka and his 8-member Ventures Team worked outside of the Clorox business units with funding and support from Clorox CEO Jerry Johnston to identify the opportunity, develop the positioning and source product technology that allowed it to be successfully produced. Green Works has transformed Clorox into a leader in the green products area, as featured in Fast Company Magazine.

Clorox Toilet Wand
Clorox Toilet Wand was the first toilet brush with a pop-off disposable cleaning head. It makes the toilet cleaning experience dramatically neater and easier. Larry Popelka, president of GameChanger, and his New Ventures Team at Clorox, identified this opportunity and developed a prototype product. Popelka and his ventures team also developed a successful infomercial that generated substantial sales revenue to offset many of the initial marketing costs.

Tilex Mildew Root Penetrator
Tilex Mildew Root penetrator is the first mildew remover that gets stains out of grout. Its patented surfactant technology allows bleach to penetrate grout for better mildew removal. Larry Popelka, President of GameChanger, identified a new technology that had been developed by a Japanese company that allowed bleach to penetrate into cracks to more completely remove mildew. Popelka built a relationship with the Japanese company and negotiated an agreement to allow Clorox to acquire the technology. Popelka and his ventures team developed the concept and positioning for Tilex Root Penetrator.

Clorox Anywhere Disinfectant
Clorox Anywhere contains a new technology that quickly kills germs on surfaces but is as mild as water on skin and eyes. It is also safe for food surfaces, pets and small children. Larry Popelka, President of GameChanger, identified this technology from the medical arena. A similar technology is widely used by the medical community to cleanse wounds and improve healing by killing bacteria without harming skin cells. Clorox adopted this technology for use on household surfaces, and launched it as Clorox Anywhere.

Liquid Plumr Power Jet
This is the first drain opener that works in 10 seconds and uses no chemicals. It provides superior performance with less time and effort and no toxic chemicals – using compressed air and mild cleaning agents. Larry Popelka, president of GameChanger, and members of his New Ventures team at Clorox identified a product in Europe using this technology. Popelka’s team developed the U.S. product concept, allowing Clorox’s Home Care business unit to launch it.

After Popelka and his team confirmed its potential through consumer screening, Glad management launched the product.

iRobot Scooba
This is the first ever floor cleaning robot, which cleans floors with Clorox cleaning solution. Larry Popelka, president of GameChanger, identified this opportunity while working for Clorox. Popelka built a relationship with iRobot and negotiated a joint development agreement. The Scooba was recognized by Business Week magazine as one of the Top 10 Most Innovative Products of 2006. It also helped Clorox improve its image as a leader in technology and garnered positive publicity for Clorox.
